Digital Video camera

You will find that it is not very easy to shop for a digital video camera, because you will be showered with such range of choices in a digital camera shop, that you will be totally confused. Obviously, you want to have a good digital video camera, and for that first you must realize what you should look for before you buy it.
1) Formats: You must check first about the format used by the digital video camera. The various formats are:
a) MiniDV: This provides the highest quality currently available to consumers. You will get wonderful video quality free of noise and other technical problems from which the other formats suffer, since it stores the signal directly in digital format.
b) Standard 8 and Hi–8: They also offer good consumer-quality video recordings. You will get a good recording system from Hi-8 camcorders along with clean pictures.

c) VHS and S-VHS: You can get good video recording quality by using them. S-VHS format has an improved recording system and a high-quality metal tape. The VHS cassette is larger than the 8mm formats therefore the camcorders are larger and requires a bigger battery.

2) Lens: Before buying a digital video camera you must carefully check the lens quality. Always go for an optical zoom since it uses real glass lens and thus you get wonderful images. Though a 10x zoom is good but if you want real life pictures then look out for a 20x or higher zoom.

3) Inputs and Outputs: All digital video cameras have a Firewire port, but when you go for shopping remember that you might need other ports also, obviously depending on your work. Check out for A/V outputs if you need to connect to a TV for playback or a VCR for recording.

4) Image stabilization enables you to avoid the blurring of images, which might happen if your hand shakes because of any reason. So before you buy a camera ask whether it has the image stabilization option.

5) Still–Photo Capabilities: Though many digital video cameras come with this option but the quality might not be very good. Therefore either you stick to a digital camera for taking still photos or before buying a video camera ask the salesperson about its still photo quality.

6) Low–Light Performance: You might want to shoot your candlelight dinner, so before buying the digital video camera check whether it is able to take video in low-light or almost no-light situations.

7) Battery Life: It will be tragedy if your battery suddenly decides to leave your side in the middle of a shoot. So always remember to check out the maximum recording time of the digital video camera. There might be some problems regarding this as this time might assume that you don’t use zoom. So you must know clearly how much battery life does your camera have.

So, go for shopping for your digital video camera always keeping in mind all the points mentioned above.
